Tram line extension welcomed
28 October 1998
The Member for Box Hill, Mr Robert Clark, has warmly welcomed the Governments announcement of the extension of the Mont Albert tram line to Box Hill.
"This extension will be good for Box Hill and good for businesses and residents all along the tram route from Box Hill to Kew," Mr Clark said.
"It will consolidate Box Hills position as the key transport, commercial and services centre for the eastern suburbs and make it more accessible to residents of Balwyn, Deepdene and Kew.
"The extension will also make it much easier for patients at Box Hill hospital and their families to reach the hospital by public transport and make Box Hill TAFE more accessible to students living in the inner eastern suburbs.
"As well, the extension will allow people who live east of Box Hill to reach work, or visit friends and relatives, along the tram route to Kew using the train to Box Hill and then the tram," Mr Clark said.
"This extension has had strong support in the local community for many years, and it is very pleasing that the case for the extension has been accepted and the extension will become a reality as part of the present Governments transport reforms.
