Tram stop traffic survey must look at more than Whitehorse Road

Dear Editor,

When VicRoads do their survey on the effects of the new tram stops on traffic and travelling times (Leader 6/8), they need to look at more than just Whitehorse Road.

Peak hour traffic levels on Canterbury Road, Belmore Road and Mont Albert Road all seem heavier since the new stops were installed, while traffic on Whitehorse Road west of Union Road is lighter.

Many motorists may well be re-routing to avoid bottlenecks around the tram stops, thus further congesting our other streets and roads.

VicRoads also need to look again at the safety of these tram stops, with at least one person already taken to hospital after an accident involving one of the stops.

I am writing to the Minister for Transport to ask him to ensure VicRoads' survey covers these issues.

Yours sincerely,
